Garages and sheds, the current choice of the modern burglar
Its time for a little bit of sheducation (groan)
Generally speaking, Garden sheds and garages are not designed to be secure storage areas, yet we often keep thousands of pounds of tools, equipment and items in them.
So when thinking security, thought should also be given to including these buildings as part of the overall security system.
It has long been known to burglars and theives (and indeed is one of the fastest growing crimes in the country) that sheds and garages make easy pickings
So the questions is this: How can you protect these buildings?
- the most effective method is to incude the buildings onto your burglar alarm system – this can be wired or wireless depending on the location of the buildings.
- Make sure that double locks are in place on all entrance doors, more often than not a single (and often inadequte) padlock is used that can be easily removed.
- Mark your more expensive items with your postcode or other identifiable markings
- try to use security screws or coach bolts instead of ordinary screws as these are harder to remove.
- try to secure the windows, either with a grille or even a frosted covering so people cannot see what is being stored in the building. this has an added bonus as garden tools and equipment are often used by burglars to help break in to properties.
So there are simple ideas on how to protect and secure your garage and shed (and all the things inside them)
Good infomation here, thanks.
