Although IP CCTV products are relatively new and therefore do have a higher premium than traditional cctv cameras at present, the prices are rapidly falling, making it viable for smaller installations as well, plus the actual specification and features of the IP CCTV systems are actually more than traditional systems. Its all about getting value for money

Good post. As an IP CCTV distributor who support CCTV installers with best product pricing and design services the benefits that IP can bring to CCTV are huge. PoE and HD are great features as the article mentions although we find there is a price premium for IP, usually abover 20 cameras or so. There is no doubt that the flexibility that IP brings to CCTV delivers real benefits especially when combined with an open management system such as Genetec's Omnicast or Security Center which allows users to benefit from mixing cameras from different manufacturers in the same system and adding Access Control and ANPR.
